Hunting

If you've been to the site, it is obvious that hunting and fishing are a passion. As most hunters and fishermen will attest, 'he who has the most gear wins'. You can never have enough!

Browning A-Bolt Medallion

Description:

The A-Bolt Medallion was purchased in 1994 after much debate. I was looking for a versatily gun that would last a lifetime. I chose the A-Bolt in the 270 caliber for this reason. It has been a great gun and with the BOSS system is very accurate with little recoil. I matched it with the Leuopold Vari-X III scope (see below). All my deer shown on this site were taken with this gun. It will easily be with me for years to come.

Intricately engraved receiver and select walnut stock with contrasting rosewood grip and fore-end caps • All BOSS®-equipped A-Bolt rifles include a BOSS-CR (Conventional Recoil) • CR offers shooters standard recoil and muzzle blast while maintaining optimized accuracy • BOSS-equipped rifles are available in three WSM calibers and all WSSM • Sling swivels included

Leupold VX-III 3.5-10x50mm Gloss Duplex

Description:

For those situations where light is most critical, or where hunting is allowed into the twilight or before dawn, the VX-III 3.5-10x50mm is it! It provides the added advantage of its 50mm objective bell to allow a larger exit pupil to be offered to the user. This is an ideal scope for anyone needing the absolute maximum amount of light from his or her scope. As most of my hunting is in Texas, being able to see early and late has been a tremendous advantage.

• Range estimating feature
• Lockable fast focus eyepiece

Bushnell Powerview Binoculars

Description:

The Powerview series offers contemporary design with easy-to-hold soft rubber coating, making these glasses great for all-weather use. Patented Insta-Focus® system keeps your subject in sharp focus with just a touch of a fingertip. Includes neck strap and carrying case. The focus system easily follows the action and lets you switch to another subject instantly. It is tripod adaptable. I bought the binoculars ten years ago and they're still going strong. They are not as serious as the high performance Steiner or Swarovski (which I covet), but they have been very serviceable. A great middle-of-the-road binocular at the right price.

Bushnell® Yardage Pro® 500DX Rangefinder

Description:

Invisible, eye-safe, class 1 laser accurately measures (+/-1 yd.) distances to 500 yards on non-reflective targets and 1,000 yards to reflective targets. Rain mode measures distances precisely in inclement weather. Zip mode reads distances through foreground clutter. Scan mode gives continuous distance readings as you scan multiple targets. Water-and shock-resistant, it is powered by a 9-volt alkaline battery (not included). This is a mid-range Rangefinder that is perfect for the hunter or sportsman. It has proved very handy on hunts in unfamiliar areas where guessing can cost you that big buck. The battery life is excellent.

Non-Reflective Target:500 yds.
Scan Mode:Yes
Size (in.):2-1/4 x 5 x 4-3/4

Night Owl Explorer Night Vision Monocular

Description:

The Explorer features a compact ergonomic design for comfortable night viewing. The power and IR buttons are covered to ensure resistance to weather. High-level amplification and 3.1X image magnification. Operates on one 3-volt lithium battery (not included). Corded remote for easy operation. Generation I. The Night Owl has been a disappointment. With the low power and Gen I capability, it is difficult to see anything at any distance with clarity. Granted the price is lower, but a Gen II or III with higher power would have much better luminosity and range. It is a fun piece of 'gear' to have, but not very practical. I did have to send it for repairs once soon after purchase.

Power: 3.1
FOV @1,000 yards:62.8 ft.

Photography

Obviously to have a site like this I have an interest in photography. I, like many, have graduated from traditional 35mm style cameras and video to digital. After much research, I recently upgraded both.

Kodak DC240 Zoom

Description:

The DC240 was my first digital purchased five years ago when digital cameras were still rare as a primary camera. It has been very dependable and reliable; a great 'first' digital camera. However, with the advance in technology, increased resolution, and drop in prices, it is now best as a backup. I have passed it on to my daughter and it serves perfectly for the kids! The only drawback is short battery life. The 4 AA batteries must be changed often, so keep them on hand.

Specs:

1.2 Megapixel with 3x digital zoom. Compact flash.

Olympus Camedia C-765

Description:

The C765 was purchased in 2004 after much research. With a couple vacations planned to exotic locations, it was definately time for an upgrade. My main objective was finding a camera with high resolution, good optical zoom and versatility, without spending thousands on a professional grade digital SLR. I found it all with this camera. Its 10x optical zoom surpasses most in the market in this price range. Combined with the 4 megapixels, it takes great pictures! Many of the recent pictures on my site were taken with it. The macro feature is outstanding. In addition to be able to change lens like the big boys, it has many accessories available. Like the underwater case that I purchased (see the case below). The only downside is that it only comes with a 16MB card. I recommend at least one additional 256MB card so you can get after it. A great camera!

Olympus PT-022 Underwater Housing for C-765

Description:

One of the selling points for the C765 was that an underwater case available. With all the snorkeling that was planned, I purchased the case to take underwater pictures using the new C765 rather than the cheaper throw away versions. I was pleasantly surprised and very pleased with how it performed and how easy it was to use. Once you get over the sensation of you moving, the fish moving and the varying lighting conditions, it was a lot of fun. The best part is, being a digital, you can take 100 pictures and just delete the ones that don't turn out. I highly recommend it!
